I’m tackling 2022 a little differently than 2021. Though I’m living in a new state, working full-time for a new organization, enjoying new part-time positions, and forming new relationships, I am trusting in who I am.
Instead of writing goals based on habits as I did in 2021, I am writing my 2022 goals based on values, asking one key question: how can I help myself, others, and the world?
These goals are intentionally concise. I am working to make them SMART, such as structuring by time. By being a bit more general, I can nuance what each goal looks like as habits. Offering some self-compassion, these habit practices can change as I learn more in the year.
You’ll see some goals are the same, year over year, such as publishing a book and mastering my bedtime routine. I still value intellectual creativity and my time. That probably won’t change, ever. But I am still working on these (and other) projects, so they’re still on my 2022 goals list.
I’ve also added a “stop doing” list to this to-do in ’22 list. Inspired by my post on writing do and do not do lists, I’ve found this section is just as important, as the “don’t do” items act as reminders of who I am.
At the end of each point below, I’ve also added a note in parenthesis of which category or categories the goal falls under. When you’re exploring my site, you can look up by category or use the “search” function. Or hover over “writing” on the site’s menu to choose a category. As of April 2022, the “WIP” category is mainly for book drafting.
Here are my 2022 goals!
Self goals:
- Adventure solo every month – new place, who dis? (Exploring Goal)
- Take a class every quarter – I took 3 classes last year. I think I can do 4 this year! (Learning Goal)
- Master bedtime routine – lol, work in progress. Same to morning routine. I know what I should do… but it’s not always reality. (Learning Goal)
Social goals:
- Exercise with others every week – I’ve already mastered daily exercise by myself, so I’d love to add some friends to the mix! (Moving Goal)
- Support an organization every month – I miss regularly volunteering, and once/month seems doable. Warren Village looks like a great contender so far! (Serving Goal)
- Publish a book – not necessarily *the* book on opportunity cost of habit change but *a* book to practice. (Creating Goal; Goals in Progress. Starting April 13th, ‘WIP’ gives space to book drafting).
Sustainability goals:
- Use sustainable products – small steps to make change, like coffee cups, bar soap, and buying locally whenever possible. (Serving Goal)
- Eat vegan every week – self-evident. I want to be more intentional about this by making more meals with the “fam” aka my roommates and boyfriend. (Learning Goal)
- Carpool every week – this is a time/space boundary I’m working on. (Exploring Goal)
Stop doing:
- Moving without meditating – but I love to go, go, go. This is why my word for 2022 is grace! (Moving Goal; Learning Goal; Goals in Progress)
- Having a scarcity mindset – I have resources and relationships. (Goals in Progress, but this work is related to all categories)
- Isolating from friends – I’m planning outdoor adventures in 2022! (Exploring Goal)
