Last year, I realized it was challenging to write about service. It’s not why I serve. But I know that my communications talents, whether it’s maintaining websites or curating content, can be used for good. So, I hope to focus on small things I can do for small businesses, non-profits, and fellow hummingbirds, aka multi-passionate folks. If you’d like me to spotlight you, such as through a blog post, reach out to me.
June 28-29: Trying to not unnecessarily spend, since friend-cation is coming up.
June 27: Pretzels and beer with friends. That strange feeling that you know you’ll miss a space.
June 26: Local brunchin’.
June 23-25: CAMP!
June 22: Mmm, curds. Pasta. So much savory goodness for this local lovin’. Balanced with a walk with my friend and jog after? Ish.
June 21: Sometimes you just need friends and family. What a good day.
June 20: Father’s Day meal at… 2? Then made dinner at… 8 with my Mom for local celebration.
June 19: Local lunch! And the first festival in years too?!
June 18: A bier garten and park made for today’s local lovin’.
June 17: So many! An art garden and bar, couple restaurants, and coffee.
June 15-16: State-wide successes, like ice cream and beer, are local enough for me.
June 14: Introduced my dad to a cafe that he actually enjoyed? Win!
June 13: Local eats, hike, and a life talk with a friend? Love it!
June 12: Finding a new local place to camp!
June 11: Downtown dining = homemade pasta and new-to-me coffee!
June 10: Caves were free… Not quite local. But can’t stop enjoying this state’s beauty.
June 9: Paid a cool 8 bucks for a nature preserve. Worth it, local enough. Willing to travel more for longer, new hikes, too.
June 8: Veggie burger for today’s local eats!
June 7: Tacos and trails = happy Kaylie.
June 6: Spent ZERO dollars today!
June 5: Pantry and local pie today!
June 4: Found a coffee shoppe that supports kids and adults with special needs through emotional groups and activities!
June 3: Pantry help!
June 2: Making a service list.
June 1: Time to make a list for local spots for the month!
May 31: Local-ish food.
May 30: More local faves from my bro like pizza with apples and prosciutto!
May 29: Small biz ice cream shoppe with liquor swirled in? I’m in!
May 28: Fingers crossed this trip is locally sourced food and fun! …Nope, so far.
May 27: Etsy once again seems like a great source for hummingbird connections.
May 26: Still finding new spots to try!
May 25: Terrible tacos from a tavern. Local but… Just not good. But we caught the ice cream WOman?!
May 24: Pantry in person!
May 23: Treated da fam to a new to us place after making cupcakes with my dad. I’ll take this little slice of home.
May 22: Driving to a snake place 5 hours ONE WAY isn’t quite local, but it was super multi-passionate. So I’ll take it.
May 21: WIP.
May 20: Calzoned last night’s pizza.
May 19: Lol to May 16’s entry. This pizza place was much better, maybe because of the veggies on top?
May 18: Does the rock climbing gym count as supporting local?
May 17: Surprised my fam with some local food and life talking.
May 16: When your fam’s fave pizza just doesn’t taste good anymore… I think I’ve only outgrown this form of unhealthy food.
May 15: Art show, local eats, and a bier garten, all in one venue this weekend? I’m in!
May 14: Not today.
May 13: WIP.
May 12: Extra caffeine, extra creativity. Right?
May 11: Must find a walkable local grocery store… Goal: If I have time, always walk to the store to force intentional spending in the spring.
May 10: Still need to work on the digital space!
May 9: Planned big biz carryout for Mother’s Day, and 1/2 restaurants did not disappoint. The one that did? Sign I prefer healthier food sans MSG.
May 8: Pantry event was a blast. ROI to follow, but 1 month of especially hard work, collaboration, and cross-channel promotion pay off.
May 7: Last-minute pantry additions before tomorrow!
May 6: Talking Etsy with my cousin… It’s “easier” to have an Etsy, with the platform, known audience(s), and transactions. But I usually recommend paving your own way on a space of your own, often with a higher ROI. Hmm…
May 5: Stumbled upon a taco truck while walking this evening! Feasted on alambre (meat, veg, cheese, avo, pineapple and the potential for FOURTEEN tortillas included in the plate) for Cinco de Mayo while working on pantry designs. Fiesta, indeed.
May 4: Felt some flow with my pantry work for the last 90 minutes! Finally feels like I’m stepping into the “designer” identity.
May 3: Pantry work to do all week as our event’s coming up!
May 2: Carryout from an old fashioned stand is my carryout for the week(?)!
May 1: Didn’t hit the store(s). Instead, stayed outside most of the day! When it’s nearly 80 degrees and you’re finally better from a cold, you do what you gotta do.
April 30: Going to find a local art store tomorrow?
April 29: Haven’t done carryout this week. Happily.
April 28: Ditto 4/27.
April 27: School and pantry need digital support.
April 26: Monday night is for the pantry. And developing.
April 25: Helped the pantry a bit today.
April 24: First carryout (besides work) in 2 weeks, a local burger joint that has scarcity factor level 10: it’s only open for a few hours, a few days a week, for a few months of the year. What a salty, savory, once/year treat.
April 23: Really grateful my creative space can just rest on my lap, whether it’s a ‘top or book.
April 22: Maybe I’ll do weekly carryout for the weekend because I’ve been loving cooking.
April 21: WIP.
April 20: Book writing is showing me how much can be digitized for practical implementation.
April 19: Monday is for pantry evening.
April 18: Local deli, still sans cheese. Time to really hone the digital creative space goal because I love projects.
April 17: Got a few neighborhood posters to support local! Attempted records from my fave local shop but no dice there.
April 16: No carryout today, but I might shop small tomorrow.
April 15: WIP.
April 14: Supported local by eating carryout from my work! Going to see if there’s any other small businesses supporting today’s area code-inspired holiday.
April 13: “Quick meeting”, she (I) said (wrote). 90 minutes later, pantry project is almost complete. Though it’s not done, it feels good to be a part of a team!
April 12: 2 quick pantry meetings today and tomorrow, and one for my alma mater later in the week, too! How’s that for local lovin’?
April 11: Marissa and I discussed social challenges that could boost the book… Might be useful to share some here? Hmm, I’m also thinking about a week free from carryout, so I’ll have to think of local businesses to support otherwise. Maybe décor?
April 4-10: 2/7 local businesses for carryout. Lots of service this week though. 0/7 for creative spaces. Time to reach out to friends.
April 3: Brunch plus dinner local!
April 2: Zoom Good Friday made a late-night dinner.
April 1: Screen-free family time!
March 31: “You like to help people,” says Krista. That’s my mission, more than anything. Hmm…
March 30: Great b-ball, good pub grub… carryout ramen. Something I’ve never consumed.
March 29: Pantry Mondays!
March 28: Brunch. And discussed creative challenges and subscriptions with KT.
March 27: Lo-cal-tea. Locality!
March 26: Local fish fry for a Fry-yay.
March 25: Lol a certain sandwich shoppe with two J’s was “big business spending.” And was disgusting.
March 24: How am I going to translate my love for the desk/notebook into a digital space? Just digital downloads? Gotta decide the functionality here. I get the audience.
March 23: Local waaangs.
March 22: Monday night is for the pantry.
March 21: Still feeling Friday friend day, but I didn’t even bring up the ‘hummingbird’ concept. But I definitely will when I catch up with TWO friends this week!
March 20: Local brunch, carryout, of course.
March 19: Indian food is the best for Meatless Friday!
March 18: Elevated pub grub (carryout, of course) is amazing today. I’ll feel it tomorrow.
March 17: Work’s been creative, so hopefully that fuels some personal creativity too.
March 16: Carryout tacos is still Taco Tuesday in my book!
March 15: WIP.
March 14: Pi Day, the Kaylie way: hand-pie, pizza pie, and grasshopper pie, all supporting local, small businesses! And my stomach. And my love for wordplay.
March 13: The pantry helped ME today!
March 12: 10pm delivery, ugh.
March 11: Still helping pantry with special events, but it feels good, knowing our process matches other nonprofits.
March 10: Took a break.
March 9: Been frugal lately, so fun food it is: 2 taco trucks, 2 meals. Dinner today is lunch tomorrow.
March 8: I think I’m struggling with building a creative digital space because I don’t know what projects to put there. Owning the process, sure. But going beyond my pixels and notes? And where is “there”? A different landing page… For the book?!
March 7: Pantry event is published!
March 6: More food pantry help!
March 5: Food pantry help!
March 4: WIP.
March 3: WIP.
March 2: Takeout Tuesday to support local, anyone?
March 1: WIP.
February 28: WIP.
February 27: WIP.
February 26: Mmm, Friday Fish Fry enables weekly local spending deliciously.
February 25: Helping the pantry again with new digital enhancements!
February 24: First indoor dining (an enclosed private chalet) in months this week!
February 23: New wifi service installed today will help!
February 22: Supporting local looks like carryout. Need more fun/contribution. But tacos on #nationalmargaritaday works today.
February 21: WIP.
February 20: So. Much. Food. From local places!
February 19: Connecting friends from different places in my life via YouTube?! Hmm…
February 18: Writing the class letter and going to share my website’s service spotlight there!
February 17: WIP.
February 16: Got carryout from my fave gastropub for Mardi Gras!
February 15: Yesterday’s dinner is lunch today!
February 14: Candle-lit small business support for Valentine’s… in my apartment. Cheers!
February 13: Connecting to more alumni! Amazed how many creatives are in my life, a few steps away.
February 12: Hmm small biz shopping for… Valentine’s? President’s Day? Haven’t shopped since Christmas.
February 11: Alumni connections show how special my school is. I have so many multi-passionate friends. Don’t hesitate to comment how I can help you.
February 10: Reunion meeting reinforced both service goals (if I count my alma mater as local).
February 9: Connecting with pals continued (feel free to comment!)
February 8: Connecting with old classmates!
February 7: Brunch today means no spending tomorrow.
February 6: No $t@rb$… But definitely a spending Saturday.
February 5: Helping the pantry even online feels good! The world is more interconnected than ever, and digital work can bridge.
February 4: Ugh does Culver’s count as small business? I don’t think so. But when nothing’s open at 9:45pm, ya do what you gotta do. I’m that person who orders a salad at a burger place.
February 3: #WIP reaching out to friends!
February 2: I can’t wait to share a new way to connect with fellow movers and shakers on this website! Comments always welcome on every page/post, but there will be a whole new section soon!
February 1: Monday has become my day for my stomach to support local. Waaangs count as protein, right?
January 31: I have an idea for some digital spaces that AREN’T F@cebook. Just figuring out how to integrate real-time conversation. Details to follow.
January 30: Does getting Toppers at 2am count as local since it was founded at my state? Asking for a friend.
January 29: F@cebook friends, I’m reaching out to you!
January 28: Pardon the 3rd person but: “Keep your creative space simple,” she says to self. Signs up for course, she does. “Another F@cebook group for accountability,” she says. Sigh.
January 27: Enjoyed a local coffee and local cookie, slapped with a mitten-wearing Bernie! And helped a friend with a new potential professional social profile. I’m learning so many F@cebook rules on different industries.
January 26: If I have my laptop always with me, this seems to be easier: I can help with logos, organic and paid social media, and websites via PC (all things I’ve worked on in the last day, for free). So I’m starting to look at “serve” goals and “services” differently on this website. I’m learning to only offer help when someone asks, but what if *strangers* want my help with these tasks? Is the side-hustling door knocking?
January 25: I decided ordering takeout once a week is mindful and fun… And okay for Mondays since I take my online course on Mondays and often help the food pantry on this day, too.
January 24: I know I am looking for ways to develop a digital space, but I cannot help but wonder… why do I feel this need to always have a notebook with me? In other words, yes, I was scribbling notes while watching the Green and Gold. Just me? Let me know how and when you create. Seriously. It will help me decide how to help!
