We’re hours away from 2025, and I’m on my last systems review for the year!
I tried color-coded calendars, both physical and digital. I’ve tried chunking and blocking my various job and class schedules. Ever an accountibilibuddy, I’ve texted, coffee chatted, and Zoomed with friends to support their goals.
I am proud of MANY of 2024’s behavior shifts because it often led to newfound beliefs about myself. Removing unconscious biases meant I had to check my behavior or how I was often the problem (especially when I did not realize it). And the thing is, I had to do more than just believe I could change, but actually be and live in those changes. This led to so much self-discovery.
For example, I am proud to have been sober almost the entire year! Last year’s heartbreak led to changing how I view love, church, and responsibility. I truly started loving myself and acting in that way. One example? I try to no longer self-deprecate and instead see the humor within situations, instead of brush off pain. This self-love led to maintaining a healthy relationship with myself, God, my partner, friends, and family.
The whole purpose of this “systems review” series was to share how making system(s) can automate. But I did not expect my (sometimes limiting) beliefs to change, too. These small shifts to systems changed my behavior, which thus influenced how I view myself. Sure, I am still smart, compassionate, and dorky… but now I have so much self-awareness. Especially how I can BE the change through my actions, not just intentions or hopes. How freeing!
What have you learned about yourself this year? Will you maintain or update these systems in the next?
