I am SO glad I’ve crafted this space online to create a workflow and a living, breathing journal of my work and words. When I launched this website in 2019, I had many goals before “settling” on my name, from “Introvert Guide to Life” to “Word Nerd.” I am happy to share that different webpages on this site AND other mediums beyond kaylielongley.com are serving some of these past goals. However, I feel called to rearrange, rename, and perhaps even optimize this website to better serve you, my current audience. By focusing on present-day passion projects (instead of what I’ve done in the past, such as editing my college’s yearbook), I hope to create a better user experience for everyone!
I am adding new webpages.
I want to give more SPACE through new webpages to my works in progress:
- I have been asked to become an IG Influencer for a company that resonates with me, so I’ll be writing a page about that!
- I am looking into designing #relatable graphics for friends
- I will have an entire section of the website devoted to my word for the year, grace – with different posts per letter of the word
- I am debating adding a section for other works, such as published poetry and the draft (a chapter or 2?) of my book
‘Creative Spotlights’ will become ‘Womxn in Progress.’
Online and off, my goal is to create safe spaces for people to show up for their best selves. That hasn’t changed. As an author, videographer, and graphic designer myself, creating art helps me be my best self. Art is an expression of the self. Likewise, when I first started creative spotlights as a ‘call to action’ for artists to connect on my site, I thought this could be a digital place for artists to share. While social, it was too general of a goal.
Spotlights will now be ‘Womxn in Progress’, so if you are a cisgender or transgender woman or non-binary and you have (ideally creative) work you’d like to share, I’d like to feature you on my website. Fill out a spotlight application. We’ll have a virtual conversation, which I’ll edit into a blog post, highlighting the conversation, your work, and (optional) perks for kaylielongley.com readers. My goal for this change is March, in honor of International Women’s Day on March 8. I aim to post one spotlight every Wednesday, playing off of social media trends: #wcw (Womxn Crush Wednesday) AND #wip (Work in Progress and Womxn in Progress).
I will be relabeling the webpages, but much of the site’s content will remain.
I’m thinking “Services” may become “Work with Me” because it is a clearer Call to Action. This will become the ‘parent page’ to projects like resume editing, graphic design gigs, etc.
In addition, the main “Blog” page will stay the same, but I’m considering renaming it. “Currently Writing”? “Words”? And what about old projects?
I will also maintain my “Grace” content, with the self-expectation of writing on the 10th, 20th, and 30th of each month, but I am not sure if that’s worth a separate section of the website. I think so, because it is my word for the year.
I am also adding some color to my website.
You may have already noticed some photos and graphics on recent posts, as mentioned in my inaugural “grace” post, they add context. In addition, my hope is to get professional portraits taken.
Graphically, my color scheme has become muted yellows and purples to complement the white space. I haven’t changed my logo, but I have played with the tagline a lot. While the ‘KLE’ monogram personally resonates, there isn’t much context. I fear it’s not serving me much so am considering something new.
I am SO excited for these changes, and I will be working on them throughout the month. I am giving myself time to work on these changes, so my goal is to complete these self-assignments by March 1. If you have feedback on what you enjoy about my website, what’s confusing, or what’s too little info OR if you recently redesigned your own website or blog, reach out with a comment! As a fellow work in progress, I want this user experience to be fun and inspiring.
