The temp soared to nearly 100. And yet, I ran. It’s the consistency that counts. I’ve got my first marathon in 2 months. It’s surreal.
This weekend, I’ll be buckling up for a 2-hour run. I’ll be with my partner. And we’ll push each other. It’ll be after running 20 additional miles all week.
But today, it was a slog of 5 miles, by myself. Intermixed with jogs were 10-second dashes. These are usually sprints, where I can go as fast as 5-minute paces. Today’s intervals, though? Not so much.
As one pedestrian shared, “How are you doing that? That’s incredible!” The incredible happens; just 2 months ago, a couple of miles in this extreme heat could wear me out. While I shared an honest, “I don’t know! You take care of yourself though!”, I do know:
Running gives as much as it takes. Fatigue is not something to fear, thanks to joyful preparation. I savored sips of fruit punch Gatorade post-run. I still did my daily 5 minutes of abs. And since it’s the 30th, here I am, writing.
Am I nervous to run essentially for 5 hours straight, come September? No. I’ll run. Sometimes jog. And you better believe I’ll get a sprint in there.
Take care of yourselves.
