Nothing changes if nothing changes. Stability may seem scary, boring, or – at the very least – redundant.
How can both be true? Do I live in both realities?
Believing in the affirmative, I can and have made many productive changes today, this month, and all year. That was one goal of setting “intersection” as my word for 2026. Another output was embracing my contradictions.
For example, I like to think of myself as adventurous, spontaneous. I’m up for practically anything. My energy, without question, is still valid and practiced, thank you very much. Just yesterday, I ran for 2 hours and 15 minutes, despite an ozone action day, in preparation for my marathon!
And yet. Routine makes up so many of my routine: I work, run, write, and charge my car nearly every single day. I’m learning to schedule solitude. Stillness encourages me to pause. I also like to systemize. Said another way, consistency makes me feel secure.
Plans change. Goals do too. Scarier question: What happens when dreams change?
Why am I looking for change? Am I seeking excitement? Novelty for its own sake? When is enough actually enough?
When I realize I have enough, I then start believing I am enough. Can the almost-inverse be true too? I am enough, and I have enough, regardless of how I feel about it.
Realizing my core fear is running out of time, gratitude is one answer to so many of these questions. I don’t actually need change, most of the time. When I do need change, I can be it.
Stability is health, happiness, and perhaps even privilege.
Instead of asking these “why” questions, gratitude demands “what” answers: What I have, within me and through me. What I’m about hasn’t changed. Zeal, service, compassion, honesty, creativity.
What’s next is still waiting to be answered by life itself. I don’t need to know all the answers… But I can still want them. Why not ask?
Over to you: How are you embracing life – through change, consistency, or some bit of both?
