Life feels large lately. Systems lie and tell us we’re not enough. At the same time, I believe we have far more capacity than we tell ourselves. Instead of feeding into the lie, I’m living my values through doing the hardest, best thing of all: Embracing myself. Inaction causes more internal turmoil.
Self-esteem comes from an alignment of being and doing you.
These habits below may seem tiny. And guess what? They are purposefully smaller to drive change. Here’s a couple of tiny ways I’ve started doing just that.
I use the snooze button once or not at all.
What changed was realizing the snooze starts the day with procrastination. If one of my values is being a person of action, why would I start with prolonging that action?
I’ve started documenting my runs.
I take 2 snaps when I go for a run, 1 of the environment and 1 selfie. Why? To remember I ran, where I was, and to ensure progress toward my goal of running a marathon.
My partner and I are running 1 together in September. We run together and apart (sorry, Mom!). These pics are a reminder that this marathon is not just for quality time, it is for me.
I write every day. No matter what.
But it doesn’t have to be the next great novel (yet). Lists count as writing. Post-it notes too. Scribbles are love letters to my present and future self.
Tomorrow’s effects are because of today’s causes (that’s Nichiren Buddhism). These little shifts help me become the person I want to be, just as I am now. How can you show up for yourself today?
